Creating a keyboard shortcut for Git Bash on Windows allows you to open it quickly by simply pressing a key combination.

To create a keyboard shortcut for opening Git Bash, you need to first open the properties dialog of Git Bash.

Look for “Git Bash” in the Start Menu search bar on your Windows computer.

git bash windows start menu search

When the app name and icon appear, right-click and select ‘Open file location.’

The Windows File Explorer will open and display the folder that contains ‘Git Bash’.

Right-click on ‘Git Bash’ and select ‘Properties’.

A ‘Git Bash Properties’ dialog will open with the ‘Shortcut’ tab automatically selected. If it isn’t, please select it.

In the ‘Shortcut’ view, click the field next to ‘Shortcut key’ and press any key on your keyboard. When you press a key, ‘Ctrl + Alt +’ will be automatically added to the key you pressed.

Once you have finished, click ‘OK’.

Now press the key combination you have configured; in my case, it was ‘Ctrl + Alt + Z’. The Git Bash window will open after you press the key combination.

Follow the same steps to add a keyboard shortcut for opening Windows CMD or PowerShell.
